Jack's Swimming Lessons

We have a community center, community pool and an amazing park and splash pad just down the road from our house. I looked into swimming lessons for Jack and found out they offer them and the price was SO reasonable! I only paid $15 for 2 weeks of lessons.

We went on the first day and luckily Mike's schedule worked out such that he kept Jared at home and I took Jack to lessons.  We were a little worried about how he would react.  We have been talking swimming lessons up and trying to get him excited.  Our hopes and efforts were crushed because he wouldn't get in the water! He would not participate with his class AT ALL! I spent the first day trying to get him to get in the water and chasing him.  After 2 days of this, I was getting worried that I wasted my money.  Mike even took him one day and it didn't help either.  The teachers would try to talk to him and get him to come in, but he would yell "No" or run away and so they eventually stopped bothering. We would walk into the water with him and he would start to come in and then change his mind.  There was another boy in the class that was resisting as well and one of the teachers would really take time with him and pretty much force him to get in and then spend lots of one on one time with him in the water.  I was waiting for someone to do that with Jack! I really thought that if he was forced in, he would figure out how much fun it is and would be fine.  He loves the water, I think he was just really nervous.

Finally, on the third day of not even getting wet, Miss Connie (pictured below) asked me if it would be ok if she just pulled him in. I told her that was what he needed.  She pulled him in and he fought.  She took time with him and worked with him and it took less than ten minutes for him to love it! Yay! I was soooo happy! The rest of the week and the following week went great.  He was excited to go every day, participated, and had lots of fun.

Miss Connie and Miss Paige were his favorite teachers and he would talk about them all of the time! He would ask where they are, where they live, and if we could go to their house.

Arm crawling the wall. Jack was really slow at this and would usually hold up everyone behind him.  It was mostly because he would start playing or messing around! Silly kid.

One day, he decided he needed his sunglasses. We got their a little early that morning and he was showing off his GQ side with his glasses.

But then my cute Jack came through!

On the second to last day of lessons, the kids headed for the diving board.  They were excited, but they didn't have a clue what they were in store for.  Each parent was alerted the previous day and I thought it would be good for Jack to be exposed to it.

Jack was the first one to go off.  I'm not sure if that was a good or bad idea. Once he realized where he was going, he got nervous and started fighting. Miss Paige helped him and pretty much lowered him down and let him drop in right before the water.  Miss Connie let him come up on his own and helped him to swim to the side.  He was a little shocked, but I was really proud of him.

On the last day, they got otter pops and loved it!

After a little rough start, I think we had a successful summer of swimming lessons.
Until next year!!!
